CBS did it again, incorrectly reporting Monday that Terri Schiavo is dead. Fortunately, talk radio host Glenn Beck saved the Web site shot for posterity.

A hat tip goes to Michelle Malkin (a growing phenomenon here at Rathergate.com), who sums up CBS’ actions the best:

No correction. No retraction. No apology. No surprise.

Before anyone goes medieval on the author of the CBS story, it is very likely not her fault. It is an accepted journalistic practice to pre-write “newsobits” and run them with minor tweaking once the subject of the story shuffles off his or her mortal coil, in order to avoid getting beaten on the story. Unfortunately, it also is a not-too-uncommon phenomenon for copy desks and Internet editors to screw up and run the stories while the subject is still breathing.

That being said, I wonder who the “unimpeachable source” was who informed CBS of the demise. Has Bill Burkett taken up medicine?
