MSM hushing up fishy Schiavo memo
Wow … not a word from the MSM on the fishy GOP “talking points memo” that seems to be a fraud. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) called for an investigation the other day, but no one’s talking. Let’s compare this to the Congressional inquiry into “journalist Jeff Gannon,” which the MSM hyped up for days.
I’m not the only person who has noticed. Michelle Malkin notes that the Florida Sun-Sentinel is the only newspaper in the nation to mention a possible Congressional investigation, and their coverage consists of two sentences.
Malkin also notes that The Washington Post’s media critic is staying mum, and ABC News, which broke the story with the Post, isn’t returning phone calls.
But while I’m up, let me check the Fourth Estate’s self-appointed media monitors …
Poynter? Not a word on the memo’s dubiousness, but as usual, Romenesko Letters is an amusing read for all the clueless journalists who decry our “right wing media” conspiracy.
Columbia Journalism Review? Well, its blog mentions the memo in two sentences, but the post deals with how to use it in a news story, and nothing about the memo’s extremely fishy nature.
American Journalism Review is published every other month, so no dice there.
Editor and Publisher? Not a word. Zip. Nada.
Thank goodness the MSM has reassured us that there is no liberal bias in the news business.
It looks like Easongate all over again. Will the media ever learn anything? How many more blogosphere beatings will they have to endure? And do they realize that we bloggers are getting a little tired doing their research and their homework for them?
Excuse me while I break out my media whippin’ stick. I don’t pack it away these days.
UPDATE: Accuracy in Media weighs in yet again, with a good quote from James Lafferty, a consultant for the Traditional Values Coalition where many of the talking points were plagiarized.
“Shame on the media” for reporting the dubious memo, said Lafferty. “Unless they’ve got another source they haven’t told us about, what they’ve reported is unquestioning acceptance of a piece of paper. As CBS learned recently, you cannot trust a piece of paper without verifying what’s on it.”
UPDATE 2: Captain Ed also smells a rerun of Eason’s Fables.
