A military perspective on Eason’s Fables
I’ve been musing for the past couple of days on CNN chief Eason Jordan’s outrageous accusations of the military targeting journalists.
Of course, Jordan has yet to cough up anything resembling evidence, but as we’ve seen with Memogate, proof doesn’t seem to be a main journalism tenet these days.
But as long as Jordan is slinging accusations at the military, allow this ground-pounding, mud-slogging grunt to fling one back at Eason:
How many soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines, from Vietnam to Iraq, have been shot or killed rescuing a dumbass journalist who wandered somewhere they had no business being, got into trouble and called for help?
Well, Eason? I’m sure it’s a lot more than the dozen or so you claim have intentionally died at the hands of U.S. troops.
I’m throwing this open to discussion, but I especially want to hear from veterans. You fine men and women have been posting at Rathergate, so I know you’re out there. Got a story about a reporter messing up your day in the field and risking lives? Let’s hear it, along with what branch you served.
Come to think of it, if you’re a cop, firefighter or paramedic, let’s hear some Fourth Estate horror stories from you, too. You put your lives on the line as well, and are equally deserving of respect.
UPDATE: I plan to collect every story I receive and e-mail them to Eason Jordan. So get the word out to your veteran buddies to visit Rathergate.com and leave their stories here.
