CBS News Poll: Almost half of Americans think it is going well in Iraq, BUT…
Despite that constant media refrain, a CBS News poll has discovered that 45% of Americans who talked to the pollster when he called said that Iraq was going at least somewhat well. That number has increased 10% from last month.
Still, 59 percent of Americans say that the U.S. should have stayed out of Iraq altogether, a number slightly up from April when 57 percent said so. Thirty six percent say that the U.S. did the right thing by going to war with Iraq.
So what? What percentage of Americans thought that we should have expelled King George and his troops? What percentage of Americans thought that Lincoln should have fought to preserve the United States of America? It doesn’t matter. None of these things do, as history shows that we fought the British, fought the C.S.A., and fought Saddam and the terrorists in Iraq.
It is way too early for hindsight. It’s not quite over yet, the war not yet officially won.
But he media has to be snarky in it polls, They have to paint victory as defeat.
