A few weeks ago, an overenthusiastic commenter on this bulletin board announced that Karl Rove was about to be indicted by special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald for perjury in the Joe Wilson scandal™. His source was Truthout.org.

There was a great deal of acrimony generated by this, and by the commenter’s gloating.

Rove has not been indicted, and Truthout.org has apologized for misinforming its faithful readers:

The time has now come, however, to issue a partial apology to our readership for this story. While we paid very careful attention to the sourcing on this story, we erred in getting too far out in front of the news-cycle. In moving as quickly as we did, we caused more confusion than clarity. And that was a disservice to our readership and we regret it.

They’re partially sorry for making their readers look like buffoons. What a cesspool.
