Good morning.

  • The Orlando Sentinel has fired 21 people and will leave vacant the position of 33 others.

In a letter to the paper’s employees, publisher Kathy Waltz wrote in part:

As our products continue to evolve to meet our readers’ and advertisers’ needs, our work and staffing levels have changed. We have identified areas where work could be done differently, consolidated or stopped altogether. We also have some retirements and other voluntary departures. In some of these cases, we will not fill the positions as a means to achieve further cost savings.

I’m sure you can translate that..

And I cannot write something about Kathy Waltz without a single reference to Vienna Bon-Bons.

  • Jofus asks a favor in the comments of a post below:

Canada has called a national election for January 23rd. I wonder if anyone from Canada (or in a U.S. area who gets CBC, CTV and Global, Canada’s major TV networks) can monitor TV coverage of the campaign and point out if there are major biases.

Dittoes that, and I’d like to get in on that racket. What are the most flagrant sources of media bias in Canada? I’ve listened to 940 News out of Montreal, but I couldn’t detect anything yet.
