Citing the indisputable “people familiar with the probe,” Bloomberg tells us that special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald is now going after Vice President Dick Cheney for his possible role in the Joe Wilson scandalâ„¢.
The charges could range from a broad conspiracy case to more narrowly drawn indictments for obstruction of justice or perjury, according to lawyers involved in the case. Charges are considered less likely on the law that initially triggered Fitzgerald’s probe, which makes it illegal to deliberately unmask an undercover intelligence agent, because of the difficulty in meeting that statute’s exacting standards for prosecution.
The wire concedes that while Fitzgerald might not seek to indict the Vieep, he can write nasty things about him in a report.
It sounds to me as if the Bloomberg reporter decided that Fitzgerald was talking to a lot of people who knew Dick Cheney and decided that wouldn’t it be kewl of Cheney were a subject of the probe? This would make the reporter himself “people familiar with the probe.” I man, he’s a person and he’s familiar with the probe, having reported on it, so why not?
