David Marash, formerly of ABC News’ Nightline infotainment program, decided that he’d really rather work for Al Jazeera English (AJE). They eventually fired him now he is working on a book without a publisher. (Yes, I’m being harsh, but thus always I’ll be to Americans who choose to spread jihadist propaganda.)
Of course, even the most foul folks can have what appears to be pretty good insight. Says Marash:
“The oddity is, everywhere else [but the United States], particularly in the Southern hemisphere, their reporting is excellent, intelligent, authentic and driven by people from the place they’re covering,” he says. “In the U.S., they found it ‘hard to find’ American talent. It wouldn’t be that hard if they were looking.”
I don’t know what they have elsewhere, but our problem is, it seems to me, that most “American talent” in the news business is found with local news outlets: paper, radio, and TV. Most of the people who “graduate” to the big dailies or to the networks fit into a mold of invention, opinion, and unapologetic liberalism.
Of course, this is also an open thread.
